Welcome to EYFS at Hartford Manor!
The Early Years Foundation Stage at Hartford Manor provides children with an open ended and enabling environment where play is our vehicle for learning. In both our Nursery and Reception classes we provide a range of adult and child led learning opportunities where children are taught important life skills, allowing them to be independent, knowledgeable, and worldly learners.
To ensure that high quality teaching and provision takes place, our teaching and learning are underpinned by the four overarching principles in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Every child is unique and individual and will make progress at different rates. To thrive, learn and develop, they need to have opportunities to create positive relationships with others and explore environments that stimulate their curiosity. At Hartford Manor we carefully plan children’s learning in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) guidance, ensuring children have a variety of activities that support the consolidation of learning and reflect the characteristics of effective learning. All activities and play opportunities are designed to encompass and promote development across the seven areas of learning.
The Early Years Curriculum
The EYFS curriculum has seven areas of learning, 3 prime and 4 specific areas, covering each Early Learning Goal (ELG). For children to achieve Good Level of Development (GLD) by the end of reception children must achieve expected level in the prime areas and in literacy and mathematics.

At the end of the reception year, assessments are gathered to inform a summative assessment against the Early Learning Goals for each aspect of the EYFS. Parents will be informed whether a child is emerging (not yet achieving the ELG), or expected (has achieved the ELG).
